 Bahamas
Colorado Scuba Bash The Bahama Islands are located southeast of Florida and consist of more than 700 islands covering 1,000 square miles of ocean. From blue holes to walls, caves and shipwrecks, shallow elkhorn coral forests to pelagics both large and small, the Bahamas offer something for every type of diver!
We'll be spending seven nights at the Breezes Resort. This luxurious resort is situated on one of Nassau's most famous white-sand beaches, Cable Beach. We'll be diving with Stuart Cove's Dive Bahamas. They have been diving the reefs, wrecks and coral walls of Nassau for 30 years.
Join us this November as we explore Nassau. Get all the details here.

Ready for Adventure Plus?
Have you ever imagined what else diving has to offer? Ready to take your skills to the next level? The Adventure Plus Program is your perfect fit. Expand your diving horizons by getting a taste of specialty diving with the Adventure Diver Course, learn life saving skills with our Emergency First Response (EFR) First Aid and CPR/AED program, and tie it all together with the Rescue Diver Course. Complete your classes over a couple of months, or take the fast track and finish in a few days. Either way, you'll only need one weekend to complete both certifications at one of our open water sites!
The best buddy one can have is a self reliant diver who not only can manage themselves but can assist other people in difficult circumstances. The skills you will learn in the Adventure Plus program will expand your knowledge of diving, elevate your diving skills, and make you more aware of what is happening around you in the diving environment.
Call the store, or stop in, to learn more about this great new class option, and be ready to take your diving to the next level! |

Equipment Tip of the month
Two of the most underestimated and potentially physically demanding problems we encounter as divers are surface currents and waves. Water, which is 800 times denser than air, creates a strong resistance which can quickly tire a surface swimming diver.
One of the ways to reduce surface swimming problems is to carry a surface signal and audible device. The surface signal, or Safety Sausage, consists of a 4' or larger orange safety sausage. As our instructor Charlie always points out, nothing in the ocean is orange, except a diver waiting to get picked up! When inflated, the sausage makes it easier for the boat captain and crew to see us in choppy waves. Some also carry a reel to allow for underwater deployment during a safety stop. Otherwise referred to as a Submersible Marker Bouy (SMB), this allows the boat to track our movement while we complete our safety stop, critical when dealing with currents.
For an audible device, a whistle or Dive Alert are available. The Dive Alert, an ultra-loud signaling device, attaches between the low pressure inflator and the low pressure inflator hose.
In the event you end your dive in currents or waves, the first thing to do is make sure that you and your dive buddy are positively buoyant. Next, inflate your safety sausage to be seen, and blow your whistle or Dive Alert so the boat knows to look in the right direction. Be sure to signal that you are OK by placing one, or both, hands on the top of your head in an"O" signal. Then, "go with the flow" until the boat picks you up. And any drifting diver should know the adage "Any port in a storm". If your boat is not in sight, and another is available to offer a ride, happily accept! The Captain can radio your boat to pick you up after all divers from both boats are back on board their respective boats.
A surface signal and audible device should be considered an essential part of our diving gear, as there are times when we need to be both seen and heard. |

New to UWP - Cressi Products !
Cressi is the oldest underwater diving company presently existing: officially, it dates back to 1946, when brothers Egidio and Nanni Cressi founded it. Egidio Cressi personally tried out and tested all the equipment and then made sure that the changes suggested by the "field" tests were carried out. The sea trials, the value of experience, are still now unqualified principles of the company, applied to the simplest piece of equipment as well as the most complex ones. Even now, any new product, even though it is now computer designed and manufactured using machinery of futuristic technology, must pass the tests of use in the sea before it receives the go-ahead for production. This is the philosophy of Antonio Cressi, who has been part of the company since he was a boy and who continues the tradition and passion of his father and uncle. We are proud to be carrying the Cressi line, known for some of the best masks and fins around. Come check out our latest selection of Cressi products. |
