Grand Cayman Trip Report – Girls Only | |
|
We celebrated our 6th year of "Girls Only" Dive Trips with an excursion to Grand Cayman. Twelve ladies joined us ranging in age from 22-76 years old. As usual, it was an amazing group of women. Everyone seemed to enjoy, respect, admire and flat out get a kick out of their fellow travelers. We had some notable accomplishments on this trip. Norma and Judy both reached their 100th dive and Diane completed and survived (I might add) her first ever ocean dives. |

Betty, our 76 year old diver, picked up diving again (flawlessly) after a nine year hiatus. Nice work ladies!! We stayed at Compass Point Dive Resort located out on the East End of Cayman, otherwise known as the sleepy, laid-back side of the island. Our package included a rental car which we picked up at the airport. |

Except for learning to drive on the left (the wrong side of the road) and trying to master traffic circles without looking too much like tourists, we had a nice leisurely drive out to the East End.
The condos at Compass Point were really sweet - open, airy and bright. They were nicely decorated and had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room with two Murphy beds (quite comfy), a full kitchen and dining area. All had great balconies overlooking the ocean where we enjoyed a relaxing cup of coffee and breakfast before the dives and maybe one or two Red Stripes after the dives. |

The staff and dive crew of Ocean Frontiers was very friendly and accommodating. They took our dive gear when we arrived and we pretty much didn’t have to worry about it the whole trip. They hauled it, set it up, rinsed it and stored it for us each day. The ladies loved this! Ocean Frontiers calls this their dive valet or “green short service”. Sally said it was her easiest dive trip ever! |
|
We then enjoyed 3 days of 2-tank morning dives. Some ladies added on afternoon, night and Stingray City dives too. The diving was awesome – amazing wall dives with steep drop offs coupled with just as amazing shallow sites with endless swim thru’s and crevasses filled with tarpon, chub and jacks.

We got to dive some of East End’s famous sites: The Maze, Grouper Grotto, River of Sand and Ironshore Gardens (our favorite, hands down).
After a day of diving, one works up a healthy appetite. We must give rave reviews about the food too. There were plenty of great restaurants and even a small grocery store out on the East End. Some of our most enjoyable meals were the almond-encrusted grouper at Tukka, the curry seafood mix at Over the Edge, and the Cayman style red beans and rice grouper lunch at the Kaibo Yacht Club. We also snuck in some conch fritters and Cayman lime pie too, yum! |
| Besides all the fantastic diving and the great food, we were able to fit in a few other activities too. Some ladies relished reading a good book and relaxing on the beach in the afternoon. Others cruised into town for a visit to the Turtle Farm and 7-Mile Beach. Others still took a dip in the pool or kayaked in the lagoon. My favorite was our trip up to the North Side to dive with the stingrays and then enjoy the sunset with a mudslide in hand at Rum Point. |

Thank you ladies for a wonderful trip!! I had a lot of fun sharing my old stomping grounds with you. As some of you may know, my first job in the dive industry was at the Cayman Diving Lodge which used to be a few miles from Compass Point. This trip brought back so many good memories for me and it was a blast creating new ones with you! Can’t wait for next year… |

We cannot think of a better place for this year's girl's only getaway weekend.
The diving out on the East End is some of the best in the Caribbean. We will also have rental cars so we can explore Rum Point, the East End and the world famous 7-Mile Beach. Come join us for some sun & fun, a bit of diving, a little shopping, and lots of relaxation! We will be staying at Compass Point, located on the untouched, pristine East End of the Island.
Compass Point is compromised of 18 luxurious one and two bedroom oceanfront condominiums, each with their own private patio or balcony.
Each condo has a full kitchen, living room, private bathrooms, TV & DVD in the living area, central ac and free wireless.
The resort features a quaint white sand beach, swimming pool, kayak and bicycle rentals, and onsite dive operation, Ocean Frontiers. The diving on the East End offers pristine reefs, breathtaking wall dives & excellent visibility. Cayman boasts amazing canyons, walls & sand chutes decorated with brightly hued sponges, corals & sea fans. Caymans' trademark turtles are a common sight as well as eagle rays, angelfish, reef sharks and grouper.
