Underwater Phantaseas Group Trip to Cozumel

March 2007

Spendid Toadfish, Seahorse, Reef Octopus, Eagle Ray. These are just some of the critters that highlighted our group trip to Cozumel this March.

Only four hours by plane south of Denver lies what Jacques Cousteau labeled one of the most beautiful scuba diving areas of the world. After spending a week at Hotel Cozumel diving with Aqua Safari, I'd have to agree! Our hearty group was ready to leave the snow behind as we boarded Frontier Airlines non-stop flight to paradise with anticipation for an incredible week of diving. Having had the opportunity to explore dive sites all along the reef, we were not disappointed.

Our week started with a Nor'Easter coming down the pipe, resulting in a couple days of rough seas and windblown hair. But by mid-week, the winds shifted and the calm boat rides we had hoped for were delivered. On top of the incredible diving we were rewarded with sunny surface intervals and plenty of time to work on that tan!

Many of us crammed 17 dives into our week in Cozumel, including a 3 tank last day that was one for the ages. I recall saying on the surface interval that I hoped to see a turtle on the next dive, and lo and behold, we had three Hawskbill turtles not only make an appearance, but hang out long enough to get everyone in the frame for the video!

While waiting for our flight home at the airport, we chatted about all the incredible dives we had, the amazing critters we saw, the award winning pictures that were surely on our cameras, and I realized Jacques was right.
