When I think of mantas, places like Socorro, Yap and Maldives come to mind.
Never in my wildest dreams would I expect to say manta and Fiji in the same sentence when referring to world class manta action!
I'm sure if you speak with someone who came to Fiji for a week of sun and sand, they'd probably start by complaining about the weather. Cloudy skies with bits of rain dominated our time.
But speak to any diver on our trip, and their list would read like a who's who of diving. Aside from the mantas, blue ribbon eels, leafy scorpionfish, nudibranchs, reef and whitetip sharks all found places in our logbooks.
And since this is the self proclaimed soft coral capital of the world, we were not disappointed with varieties in every color! We even had numerous hammerhead sightings!
The crew of the Nai'a spoiled us rotten, even supplying us with a traditional turkey meal for Thanksgiving. Post dive discussions were raucous as we compared notes and photos of all the incredible sightings we had.
Our third trip to Fiji proved to be our best, and our expectations were blown away! My diving highlight reel will be overrun with Fiji footage for some time.
