Kona Hawaii Trip ReportWe get a lot of divers coming into the store to get help planning their upcoming trip to Hawaii on a weekly basis. Now that I've been, I completely understand the attraction. Our Underwater Phantaseas group spent a week on the Big Island of Hawaii, exploring all the diverse options available to travelers to our island state. Although diving with Jack's Diving Locker was definitely our main attraction, we also enjoyed touring coffee plantations, the Seahorse Farm, relaxing with a massage, great dining along the main strip of Kona, and a flight around the island to see the volcano flow. I won't name names, but one of us even celebrated our trip with a new tattoo! The highlight of the diving was definitely the Manta night dive. Basically you kneel in the rubble around several flashlights which draw in plankton, and wait for the floppy guys to show up. Having seen manta rays all over the world, I can honestly say this was one of the best encounters. We had a manta with us from our 3rd minute in the water right until I ran low on air and had to ascend an hour later. The guides kept signaling asking if we wanted to move on and do a more traditional night dive, but I just couldn't get enough of our manta, and was content to just sit and enjoy her beautiful dance in the water. If you plan a trip to Kona, this is truly a must do experience! The ease and convenience of our 50th state makes Hawaii diving an accessible option. Add direct flights from Denver, and a trip to the Big Island should definitely make your diving list. Origional Trip Brochure: |
