Underwater Phantaseas Group Trip to Little Cayman January 5-13, 2007
Live trip images and narrative from Little Cayman
January 11, 2007
So I am finally getting to the first installment of our live trip report. I could try to come up with some excuse, like the internet connection is unreliable or my laptop wouldn’t work. But the sad reality is we’ve just been having too much fun! Between diving three times a day, and the stress of lounging by the pool with a cocktail in our hands laughing the afternoon away, I just haven’t had the motivation to run up to the room and log some computer time. I’m sure you’ll forgive us this one time!
Our trip started off with another snowstorm in Denver, and with all our fingers crossed we took off only a few minutes late headed for Miami. A quick overnight with dinner and drinks in South Beach, and we were off to Little Cayman and some world class diving.
Our diving has been filled with the usual suspects – trumpetfish, nurse sharks, turtles galore, and several friendly groupers that like to be rubbed under their chins. But the highlights have been several Eagle Rays feeding in the shallows, and for a few of our group, a lone Hammerhead overhead! Call us lucky, but that’s two trips to Little Cayman, and two Hammerhead sightings. Our boat captain is less than pleased with us as he has been here 6 years without a single sighting!
Last night we joined some of the staff in their weekly softball game on the runway. Definitely a first to have to pause the game for a plane to land, reload, and take off again!
This afternoon found us touring the museum and Nature Reserve, followed by the ever strenuous lounge and drink poolside. Our final two dives of the trip are tomorrow morning, followed by the 2nd Bi-Annual Tour de Little Cayman (using the less than well maintained bicycles provided by the resort). I can’t promise another live trip report will be posted, so I hope this will suffice. We hear another snowstorm and cold weather await our return, so anything that brings us back to reality, like logging on to the computer, is something we are all trying to avoid.
Good night!
